When Tammy Milgrom bent over to do laundry one day, she was suddenly in terrible pain. One of the discs in her spine had herniated. In spite of several procedures, the 27-year-old was unable to walk or to move without excruciating back pain.
“St. Michael’s changed my life.”
– Tammy Milgrom
Patient and Donor
She was referred to Dr. Howard Ginsberg for treatment with the Hospital’s new Ziehm 3-D intra-operative scanner used for minimally invasive spinal surgery.
Thanks to donor support, we are the first hospital in Canada to use this innovative technology which guides surgeons so they treat spinal problems without opening up a patient’s back. As a result, patients enjoy a faster and less painful recovery.
Remarkably, although she had to be carried into the Hospital when she was admitted, Tammy was up and walking the day after the procedure. When she went for her follow-up visit, even Dr. Ginsberg was amazed at the speed of her recovery.
“Dr. Ginsberg has changed my life,” she says. “I can’t imagine what my life would be like right now if I had not had that surgery. I cannot remember the last time I felt this good, felt so alive and felt back to mynormal self. This means the world to me, and I have Dr. Ginsberg to thank!”
