Inspire 2018 Construction Milestone

In early February 2016, St. Michael’s Hospital hit a major milestone in construction of the Peter Gilgan Patient Tower. After months of excavation and laying foundation, we’ve reached grade. The contractor poured concrete to the B1 level (at the sidewalk). We’re only going up from here!

The statue of St. Michael the Archangel is temporarily returning to the Bond Wing, where it stood watch over the lobby from the late 1890s to 1996. The Cardinal Carter lobby, where the statue has stood for the past 20 years will be turned over for renovations in early 2016. Eventually, the statue will have a permanent home in the Peter Gilgan Patient Care Tower, following its completion in 2017.

The Peter Gilgan Patient Care Tower will allow St. Michael's to become the premier critical care hospital in Canada. The new building will allow our staff to advance the standard of care to ensure our patients receive the very best care possible.

Thanks to our donors we will have the facilities we need to save more lives. With the new hybrid operating rooms, inpatient units and intensive care spaces, we will offer state-of-the-art care to patients whose lives, in many cases, hang by a thread and who need the highly specialized care we provide.
