A Christmas Eve Miracle

I’d been singing in a church concert a few days before Christmas, then woke up the next morning feeling really ill. Things quickly escalated to the point where I was seeing double and having trouble breathing. Once my partner got me to my community hospital, my blood pressure was extremely low. Coach Foto Lights Out

Model Schools, Model Students

Low-income Canadians lack access to many of the factors that determine good health: education, employment, stable housing, healthy neighborhoods and social supports. Poverty and marginalization causes serious health problems that lead to premature disability, shorter life spans, and high rates of health care use. In Toronto, this is especially the case: one in three children live in poverty, and 30% of children starting in senior kindergarten are not ready to learn. Left untreated, health issues can prevent kids from doing their best at school.

Best Friends Reunited

When jewellery designer Sassan Fazeli takes a coffee break, his dog Sukie has to come along. The petite pooch may look like a Bichon Frise, but her owner doesn’t take her to the salon for regular grooming, preferring instead to “let her be a dog.” But behind her ragamuffin exterior is a well-behaved and loyal pet.
