Christine and David French

Terry's story

Terry is a long-time supporter of St. Michael’s. He is interested in helping to create and renovate facilities with the patient in mind—from the warm and inviting Terrence Donnelly Heart Centre, to the Day Surgery Centre, to other rooms around the Hospital that all have his special touch. His most recent project was renovating and furnishing a conference room for Medical Imaging to honour the 43-year career at St. Michael’s of Dr. Ron McCallum.

Patrick and Barbara's story

In November 2005 Patrick and Barbara Keenan gave a lead gift to build the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science, making the dream a reality and inspiring other donors with the same vision. The Keenans will always be remembered for creating the first-ever endowed chair at St. Michael’s, the Keenan Chair of Medical Research, now held by Dr. Philip Marsden. The Keenans, among their other generous gifts to St. Michael’s, also established a second chair, the Keenan Chair of Surgery, held by Dr. Loch Macdonald.

Carolyn Vallejo's story

When Carolyn Vallejo began to experience dizzy spells and feel tired all the time, her doctor wasn’t sure what was wrong. A teacher and mother of two, Carolyn was physically active and up to this point had been very healthy. When her doctor sent her for further tests, an echocardiogram revealed a life-threatening problem. Carolyn had a tumour in her heart, called a myxoma.

Katie’s Story

Katie is the former chair of St. Michael’s Young Leaders, a group of young professionals who fundraise for the hospital. She says, “We want to give back to an organization that is itself giving back. St. Michael’s is known for its patient care but also for its work in the inner city. There are needs that aren’t glamorous, don’t get government funding or donor support. We were looking for areas where we could make a difference.”

King Ward

King Ward started fundraising for the Hospital then and was asked to join the Board of Directors when St. Michael’s Foundation was created. He stayed on the Board for eighteen years, and 30 years after that first operation is still involved as a volunteer.
